high-adventureIt is the David D. Dowd III Fund committee’s goal to financially assist Boy Scouts from troops within the Birmingham Metropolitan Area to enable these scouts to have an opportunity to experience the multiple benefits of high adventure scouting at any Boy Scouts of America (“BSA”) high adventure program.  These include, but are not limited to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Minnesota, and Florida Sea Base, Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, or any other High Adventure trip that is certified by the Boy Scouts of America.  David Dowd’s love of the high adventure scouting experience and his appreciation for the enduring character building traits and values that are developed into the lives of participants young and old alike serve as the purpose of this fund.  The fund exists to provide scholarships designed to defray expenses associated with attending high adventure scouting programs for individual scouts or troops primarily within the Birmingham Metropolitan Area whose financial circumstances would otherwise make it difficult to participate in such experiences.

Recipients will receive $1,000. The committee anticipates awarding 2 scholarships each year.
